Typhoon Kong-ray creates congestion at Shanghai, Ningbo and Kaohsiung

Asian container ports Shanghai, Ningbo and Kaohisung are working through congestion after Typhoon Kong-Rey blew through last week.
And Kong-rey, which made landfall in Taiwan on Thursday, was the strongest typhoon to lash Taiwan since 1996.
According to EconDB, Kaohsiung, the island’s main container port, is experiencing 100% delays for all incoming box ships, which amount to 69 over the next seven days.

HMM tightens rules for shipping lithium batteries after deadly factory blaze

HMM will no longer carry lithium-ion batteries manufactured by its compatriot manufacturer Aricell and contained in electronic devices or packed with electronic equipment. The firm’s factory suffered a massive fire in June.
The ban was announced in an advisory to customers following a clampdown by the carrier on dangerous goods transported on its ships.

The Shanghai lockdown is playing havoc with Chinese supply chains, driving up inland logistics costs and disrupting shipping schedules, forwarders say.
According to Southern Cross Cargo, carrier schedules are “changing rapidly”, with some vessels suffering handling delays.
“Some are in queue for a berth and some are being re-routed and missing Shanghai altogether,” the forwarder added. “Where necessary, we are taking bookings to alternative ports such as Ningbo, which is fully operational.”

The traditional post-new year (CNY) lull has helped ease China’s port congestion, but cargo backlogs and container shortages are still propping up rates.
In South China, for example, services at Yantian, Shekou and Guangzhou are back to normal, according to Fibs Logistics.
