Japanese container line ONE today reported its Q2 24 interim results that showed huge increases in profitability on the back of increased volumes and tightened supply, and vessel utilisation levels consistently at 90%-plus levels.

Gemini Cooperation’s “hub and spoke” strategy was predicted to be “ineffective” by speakers at the Busan International Port Conference in South Korea last week.
The Gemini tie-up between Maersk Line and Hapag-Lloyd will launch operations in February 2025.

Booming intra-Asia trade pushes container traffic to new monthly record

New data from Container Trade Statistics (CTS) shows global container traffic in May hit a new monthly record, largely propelled by a double-digit year-on-year increase in the vast intra-Asia trade.
According to CTS trade data for May, which counts all loaded containers shipped on the world’s shipping lanes, intra-Asia volumes grew 14.4 % year on year, to reach just over 4.5m teu.

MSC to launch Europe-Asia-North America service

In a bid to rationalise capacity across its network, MSC is reorganising its Asia-Europe and transpacific services and launching a single Europe-Asia-North America pendulum service.
The Swan-Sentosa service will be formed by bringing together MSC’s existing Asia-Europe Swan service and combining it with its transpacific Asia-US west coast Sentosa service, which at the moment is connected to MSC’s India-Far East Shikra service, in an India-Asia-North America combined loop.
