China International Marine Containers (CIMC), the world’s largest container manufacturer, said its output in the first nine months of the year rose five-fold after the Red Sea crisis sparked resurgent demand.
From output of 2,490,000 boxes, (including 93,400 reefers, up 17%) revenue rose 36% year on year, to CNY128.97bn ($18.37bn), while net profit nearly doubled, to CNY2.73bn ($388.35m).

Chinese container makers reveal surge in orders

China International Marine Containers (CIMC), the largest container manufacturer, said that container orders were up five-fold in Q1 24, to 494,400 teu, as the equipment shortage bites.
In contrast, reefer orders decreased by 23%, to 9,300 teu, a trend CIMC blamed on declining consumption of refrigerated goods caused by inflation. Sales of specialised containers fell by nearly half, to 35,000 units, due to lower demand for containers tailored to rail transport.

CIMC profits plunge as global container production hits ten-year low

Worldwide container production hit a 10-year low, of 850,000 teu in H1 23, according to Wu Sanqiang, secretary at China International Marine Containers (CIMC), the world’s largest box manufacturer.
Mr Wu was speaking at a roadshow on Wednesday that coincided with the release of CIMC’s H1 results, which showed net profit plunging 69% year on year, to $136.6m.

Container demand is expected to be muted this year as freight rates continue heading south, according to China International Marine Containers (CIMC) chairman and CEO Mai Boliang.

More liner newcomers quit long-haul box lanes as rates tumble

More of the newcomers to the long-haul container shipping routes have exited the transpacific and Asia-Europe lanes.
According to consultancy Linerlytica, Transfar Shipping, BAL Container Line and container maker China International Marine Containers (CIMC), which started a China-US west coast service in 2021, have withdrawn from the long-haul lane.

Vietnam steel giant Hoa Phat moves into container manufacturing

South-east Asia’s largest steelmaker, Vietnam’s Hoa Phat Group, is moving into container manufacturing.
It sees potential synergies with its core steel production business.
Hoa Phat began building its factory, Hoa Phat Container Manufacturing, in Vung Tau province in December and it is expected to be up and running towards the end of this year, with an annual output of 500,000 teu, all using steel produced in-house.

The world’s largest container manufacturer has joined the gold rush on transpacific liner routes.
The Loadstar has learned that China International Marine Containers (CIMC) has begun shipping containers from China to the US west coast, after freight rates on the lane hit a record $20,586/teu in September, according to Freightos.
