DFDS has shown its intent to expand its Mediterranean market share, today unveiling a new weekly ferry service between its growing Italian hub of Trieste and the Egyptian port of Damietta.
The move represents the Danish operator’s first foray into the Egyptian market and comes just days after it cancelled its €500m purchase of the international network of Turkish transport group Ekol Logistics.

Danish ferry operator DFDS is set to expand its service network to the West Mediterranean market after agreeing to acquire Morocco-Spain ferry company FRS Iberia/Maroc.

Transmec Group set to acquire TNA Cargo on Med near-shoring growth

Italian transport and logistics operator Transmec Group has acquired haulage operator TNA Cargo, which specialises in the trade between Italy, Morocco and Tunisia.
The deal, which was for an undisclosed price, is occurring in two tranches, with a 67% stake in TNA Cargo acquired by Transmec last month, while the remainder of the stock will be transferred to the buyer in 2023.

The recent increase in Asia-Mediterranean container spot rates “shouldn’t be mistaken as a sign of permanent recovery”.
Consultant Drewry suggests there is weakness in the east-Med region of the tradelane.
Last week’s Shanghai Containerized Freight Index (SCFI) recorded a spot rate of $1,028 per teu for Mediterranean ports. This compares with the reading on 30 September last year of $583 per teu.

ZIM to enhance its services in the East Mediterranean

The new structure offers extended coverage of East Mediterranean ports with excellent transit time. ZIM is adding the ports of Aliaga (Turkey ), Damietta (Egypt), Iskenderun (Turkey) and Ashdod (Israel) to its schedule.
